During the last five fiscal years, Volusia County Schools lost more than $80 million in state funding and made extensive budget reductions. The district’s 2013-14
budget began with a deficit of approximately $33.3 million. Multiple workshops were held to review and
discuss reductions and cost saving measures in order to balance the budget. View Budget Workshop Presentations
Major cuts include a 5% cut to central office administration,
subcontracting custodial and groundskeeping services, energy cost savings and
utilizing fund balance reserves. Next
steps for the 2013-14 budget adoption:
June 25 – approval to advertise the tentative budget and millage
July 23 – public hearing and adoption of the tentative budget
and millage rates
September 10 – public hearing and adoption of the final budget
and final millage rates
