During the last five fiscal years, Volusia County Schools lost more than $80 million in state funding and made extensive budget reductions.
After multiple workshops and receiving funding information from the state, the estimated $33.3 million budget deficit for 2013-14 has been reduced to $12.8 million.
An additional $6.1 million savings could be realized if the school board votes to approve the contract to privatize custodial services at their May 28 meeting.
The remainder of the budget deficit will be discussed at the June 11 budget workshop.
