The Volusia County school district's powerful parent involvement campaign, "Be There," inspires parents to make ordinary moments extraordinary by connecting with their children during the daily routines of life.
"All signs point to a need for increased parent involvement," said Dr. Margaret Smith, superintendent of schools. "We know that we can't do it alone. We need parents as our partners to reinforce the message that education is important and that students learn from their first teachers."
Connecting with children does not require additional resources of time or money. It only takes a minute to make eye contact, to ask a question on the drive to and from school, while getting groceries or making dinner, doing laundry, running to the bank or reading a bedtime story. Teachable moments are everywhere!
