Timbercrest Elementary's Outdoor Classroom

Timbercrest Elementary conducted an Olweus ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate an Outdoor Classroom/OLWEUS Rock Garden located on campus. This classroom will allow students to gather and participate in many outdoor learning activities. This project is the result of the hard work of many Timbercrest faculty, staff, students, PTA members, business partners and local businesses who contributed labor, equipment and supplies to make the outdoor classroom a reality.  The event was attended by Deltona’s Mayor, John Masiarcyzk, Area Superintendent, Gary Marks, principal Craig Zablo, assistant principal, Lonnie Tidmarsh and representatives of the businesses that donated. Timbercrest’s Star Student Leaders also participated in the event.

Principal Zablo and the Guests of Honor had the privilege of cutting the ribbon to open the class for use.  Timbercrest students have been participating in the Olweus Anti-Bullying Program for the past two school years. Students have learned strategies to implement if they find themselves in a bullying situation. Under the guidance of art teachers Marla Chirnside and Marcie Weaver, each student painted a rock and personalized it with his/her name and an anti-bullying word. Each student walked through the outdoor classroom and placed his/her rock in the OLWEUS Rock Garden which is located inside the classroom.
