School Board Policy 203 provides parents with the opportunity to apply for a school other than their assigned (zoned) school. The policy is being amended to comply with new legislation, and is anticipated to be adopted by the School Board on March 28, 2017. To read the proposed school choice policy,
School choice applications for SY 2017-2018 will be accepted through the last day of this school year (May 26, 2017). Families may complete an online school choice application through Parent Portal beginning March 1, 2017. If you do not have a Parent Portal account or your child will be a kindergartener, obtain a paper application from any Volusia County School.
Save time! Use your Parent Portal account to submit an electronic application today. Here's how:
Log into your Parent Portal account and select the tab titled School Choice Application.
Select the name of the child for whom you are requesting a choice assignment. Each student needs a separate application. Please note: Incoming kindergarten students and students new to Volusia County Schools will need to complete a paper application.
Complete the application and hit submit.
You will receive confirmation through Parent Portal.
The application will be sent to the
Student Assignment Office for processing.
Notification of the decision will be through Parent Portal; normally toward the end of May or in June. Please check there for status changes.
Obtain a paper application from
any Volusia County school.
Complete the application and have it signed by the principal/designee of the zoned school.
Have the requested school principal/designee sign the application.
The requested school will forward the application to the Student Assignment Office.
The Student Assignment Office will process and make decisions on all school applications.
Parents will be notified by US Mail of the decision; generally toward the end of May or in June.
School capacity information for SY 2017-18 will be updated May 1, 2017. Please note that Volusia County Schools is experiencing increases on enrollment. Available School Capacity is the primary determining factor for approvals of choice applications.
