ESOL

ALL ESOL Teachers Welcome Back 2018-2019!

We look forward to meeting all ESOL teachers on Friday, August 31st for a welcome back informational training. 

We will focus on best practices, resources, and tools to support ELLs for this school year. 

The training will be held at Daytona State College (Deltona Campus) from 8:30-3:30.

Contacts Orientation for Teachers new to ESOL​

Join us on August 28th for an opportunity to learn about resources, tools, activities and best practices that will help you in supporting English Language learners.

You will also receive important information regarding State and Federal guidelines and mandates. We will walk you through what steps you need to take now!​

New Teachers

CHAMPS Training

CHAMPS training is a required component of the VCS New Teacher Induction Program (TIP). Teachers who participated in the voluntary CHAMPS trainings this summer or are graduates from Daytona State College have already fulfilled this requirement.  Teachers who have not fulfilled this requirement must participate in the CHAMPS face to face training OR complete the CHAMPS online Canvas course. 

Teachers make sure to fill out all of the appropriate leave paperwork with your administrator and payroll clerk before attending the training.  A fund source code for the substitute has been sent to your new teacher administrative contact.

Makeup VSET/DPP Training       

VSET/DPP training is a required component of the VCS New Teacher Induction Program (TIP). Teachers who participated in the VSET/DPP training during the VCS Pre-Service Event (8/1 – 8/2) have already fulfilled this requirement.  Teachers who have not fulfilled this requirement must participate in and complete the VSET/DPP online Canvas course.

Reading Endorsement

Volusia County Schools is gearing up for our fall Reading Endorsement classes! All courses start on September 16.  Competencies 1-4 end on December 1, and competency 5 ends on December 8.  NOTE: Although all courses are online and self-paced, they must be completed within the 10 or 12-week time period.

Daytona State College School of Education offers a stand-alone Reading Endorsement that can be completed online. The endorsement and coursework is fully approved through the DOE and it requires only three classes for out-of-field teachers in reading.Please click here for course and registration details.​
