Page ContentVolunteers in Public Schools Celebrates 35 Years! Volusia County Schools celebrated their 35th year of the Volunteers in Public School Program (VIPS) at a morning gala on February 15. VIPS Recognition Day is the district's annual appreciation event, recognizing over 18,115 active school volunteers. During the 2011-2012 school-year these volunteers provided 814,545 service hours. Using Independent Sector's calculation of volunteer worth, this is valued at over $15 million dollars worth of service! The breakfast and awards program was hosted by the Volunteer/Partnership Programs Department and New Smyrna Beach High School. The event was sponsored by Space Coast Credit Union, Daytona International Speedway, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, Wal-Mart of Port Orange and Publix Supermarket. The theme "Volunteers Add Light to Learning" was prevalent throughout the venue. New Smyrna Beach High School's Way Cafe prepared an outstanding breakfast. Guests were welcomed in the auditorium by the sensational New Smyrna Beach High School Jazz Band Ensemble. The entertainment was performed by the fantastic New Smyrna Beach High School Showdolls. The morning culminated in the announcements of the following volunteer awards: 10 year Volunteers, 20 year Volunteers, 30 year Volunteers, Golden and Silver School Awards, Five Star School Awards, Parent Involvement Award, Outstanding Youth Volunteers, Outstanding Adult Volunteers, Outstanding Senior Volunteers, Outstanding Teacher/Volunteer Teams, and recognition of community involvement coordinators.
