Required Instructional Courses

A requirement for working in a summer or school year VPK program is documented completion of the following state-required  online training course: 


  •  STANDARD'S FOR FOUR YEAR OLDS  Online or Instructor led

  •  TEACHING STRATEGIES GOLD Online or Instructor led

No other course substitutes for these courses. 

Please note, there is a nominal fee of $10.00 for each course.

The link below is the website of the Department of Children and Families  for these trainings. 

You must create an account with DCF in order to proceed. The CCTA  Training Portal will have the courses listed. When the online course is successfully completed a certificate is available to print.  Course enrollees are advised to work at a computer with a working printer.  When the online  course is completed,  print 2 copies of the “Certificate of Completion”.

  •   Send one copy to: VPK Herbert Street Center. 

  •   Keep  one for your records

Logon to MYPGS (professional development) from the VCS website.

  •   Register for the VPK online literacy course.

  •   Register for Standards for Four Year Olds

  •   Register for Teaching Strategies GOLD  (TSGOLD)

Teaching Strategies Gold Documentation is a specialized training certificate for teachers actively instructing VPK. The state sends links to the course when teachers credentials are registered.

When the VPK office receives your Emergent Literacy for VPK Instructors, Standards for Four Year Olds, and TSGOLD certificates, you will received the alloted inservice points on MYPGS for each course.
